Donald Gilbert Leonard was born in Havana, Kansas on April 1, 1928; the oldest child of Guy F. and Opal L. (Carpenter) Leonard. The family moved to Wichita in 1933, settling at 1856 Salina St. It was in that Riverside neighborhood that Don met his best friend, Dolores Dungan, and fell in love. Don and Dolores were married at Woodland Methodist Church on July 11, 1947 and children soon followed. Don was employed by Phillips Pipeline Company his entire career from 1946 until his retirement in 1985. A knowledgeable and talented man, Don could construct or repair anything. He was also a terrific golfer and an avid sailor. As much as he loved to play (and he did), Don was never so happy as when he was surrounded by his family doing anything, or nothing. His final days were spent in the company of his family and in the loving care of his "adopted" family at the Catholic Care Center. On June 26, he left the company of his bride of nearly 65 years, his four daughters, Kathryn (John) Loiacono, Sondra Garvey, Jennifer (Randy) Tohill and Donna Roberts, his two sons, Michael (Jeanie) and Jeff (Ronnie), 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and his brother, Harold Leonard.
