Samms, Thelma F. (Hammerberg), 87, homemaker, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008. She grew up on the farm her grandfather homesteaded in rural Atkinson, Neb. The one room, eight grade school she attended also was attended by her father, O. A. Hammerberg. Her mother, Mabel Earle Hammerberg, taught at the school before she was married. She graduated from Atkinson High School in 1937. Thelma and Enoch Warren Samms were married Nov. 22, 1941, in Wayne, PA. He preceded her in death, as did her parents; a sister, Lois Smith; infant son, Brian Ray Samms; and son in law, E.L. “Duke” Rush. She is missed by a son, Richard W. Samms; two daughters, Diane F. Rush and Carla L. (Keith) Hansen all of Wichita; grandsons, Bryan Fontana, Warren (Nichole) Samms, David Samms, Matthew Samms, Kenton (Lacy) Hansen and Reid Hansen all of Wichita; two granddaughters, Amy Rush of Atlanta, GA and Tara Fontana (Scott) Norris of Belmont, MA; great grandson, Judah Hansen; and great granddaughter, Audrey Norris. Visitation, Friday, 10a.m. to 6 p.m. with family present from 4 to 6 p.m., Services will be Saturday, 1:00 p.m. January 12 in the Garden Chapel of Watson Funeral Home, 3201 S. Webb Rd, with burial following at 3:00 p.m. in the Atlanta (Kansas) Cemetery. A memorial has been established with St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 1356 N. Broadway, Wichita, 67214.
