Mitchell, Lena Temple, age 89, homemaker, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2008. Lena was born in Dearborn, MO on September 21, 1918. She spent the majority of her younger years in Winfield, KS. Her family lived across the street from Southwestern College, where she later graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in journalism in May, 1940. Lena married William H. "Bill" Mitchell on September 30, 1939. He preceded her in death on January 27, 1997. She is survived by her son, David (Rynthia) Mitchell, of Wichita, daughters, Janet Sourk of St. Joseph, MO, Sharon (Chuck) Wood, of Colorado Springs, CO, sisters, Fredonia "Fritz" (Ray) Parrott, of Wichita, Charlotte (Melvin) Lawrence, of New Salem, KS, 8 grandchildren, Grant and Parker Mitchell, of Wichita, Andrew Sourk, of Rolla, MO, Elizabeth Rivers and Allison Sourk, of Kansas City, MO, Katy Minnick, of Chicago, IL, Emily Wysocki and Megan Baron, of Colorado Springs, CO. Lena was a strong supporter of the arts and learning. She was also an active member of Broadway Christian Church for 60 years. Services will be Wednesday, 11:00 AM, in the Garden Chapel of Watson Reflection Pointe, 3201 S. Webb Road, with burial following in Winfield, Kansas.
