Robert E. Schroeder was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin on October 29, 1917. He left this life on September 4, 2015 to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty seven years, Mary Louise Moncrief Schroeder; and brother, Donald Schroeder. He is survived by his six children, Robert Schroeder II and wife Vicki, Norman Schroeder and wife Susan, Charles Schroeder, Carolyn Fair, James Schroeder and his wife Julianne, and John Schroeder and his wife Becky; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Bob as he was known, served in the Wisconsin National Guard from 1937 until 1940 when he enlisted in the Army Air Corp as a flight cadet. While in the Air Corp/Air Force he served in a variety of assignments starting with being a fighter pilot and later an officer in Armament and Electronics. During the WWII he was stationed in San Antonio and Harlingen, Texas as a gunnery instructor. Bob retired from the Air Force at the rank of Major on July 31, 1961. After retiring from the Air Force he went to work with the Department of Commerce/ Weather Bureau. He resided in Wichita, Kansas from 1973 until his passing. He was known for his, intelligence, compassion, loyalty, directness and feistiness. He will be missed by many.
Services will be at the National Cemetery in Fayetteville, Arkansas at a date to be announced.
