Williams, Donald J., 78, Ret. United States Army MSGT and Southwestern Bell installer, passed away Friday, March 24, 2006, at his home. A visitation with the family will be from
7 - 8 Monday evening, in the Garden Chapel of Watson Funeral Home, (Wichita), with services scheduled for 10:00 AM Tuesday, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 1000 W. 26th Street So., Wichita, with full Military Burial Honors following at Wichita Park Cemetery. Don was born on March 12, 1928, in Wichita to Emma (Lamb) and Joseph Williams, an early Wichita jeweler. He attended grade and middle schools in south Wichita and graduated from East High (where he lettered in the 880 yd run) in 1947. He enlisted in the Army in Aug. 1947 until Aug 1956. He served as a scout, sniper and Platoon Sgt. with Co. B, 9th Inf. Regt, 2nd Div. 1951-52. He served in the Army Reserves and retired as an Operations Sgt. He also retired from Southwestern Bell as a lineman, station installer, repairman, test board technician and pay phone repairman. Don married Wanda Lee Freeman on June 29, 1957. He is survived by his sons and their wives, Dwayn and Sondra, Coppell, TX, Dwight and Carol, Derby, David and Terri, Winfield, 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be given to Bethany Lutheran Church.
