Mathews, Jr., Henry "Tom", devoted husband, father and grandfather, "baba", passed away April 10th, after complications from open heart surgery. Tom was born April 14th, 1930, in Chicago, IL. He graduated from Evanston High School in 1948. He enrolled in Coe College, Cedar Rapids, IA in 1948. In 1951, he entered the United States Marine Corp and served in the Korean War. After discharge in 1953, he returned to Coe College and graduated in 1955 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in business. While at Coe he was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. On July 25, 1959, Tom married Mary Lou Haessler of Leshara, NE in Omaha. Tom was an Independent Insurance Agent his entire life retiring in 1995. Tom is survived by his wife, Mary, of 46 yrs., son, Henry "Tommy" Mathews III, of Wichita, daughter, Terri Carman and her husband Patrick, of Augusta, grandchildren, Carly & Connor Carman, brothers, Patrick and Timothy Mathews. Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Jeanette, father, Henry and step-mother Margaret, sisters, Jeanette and Mary Ann, and brother Michael. During his life, Tom was an avid golfer, handball player, swimmer and a 70 yr. member of the YMCA. A Memorial Mass will be April 19th, 10:00 AM, at Church of the Magdalen.
