Smith, Otis R., age 88, ret. Beech Aircraft foreman, passed away Monday, April 24, 2006. A memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 PM Friday, in the Garden Chapel of Watson Funeral Home. Otis was born in Franklin County, Kansas on April 24,1918, to Mahlon and Sarah Mae (Dougherty) Smith. He joined the United States Army Air Corp where he served during WW II. On October 5, 1940, he married Nadine Newcomer. While working for Beech, he served the company in Salina and Liberal as well. He was a member of the Liberal Order of the Elks, where he was a past Exalted Ruler. Preceded in death by 2 sisters, 3 brothers, and an infant son, Lester Lee. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Nadine, son, Larry and his wife Susan, of Aurora, CO, daughter, Merilyn Unger, of Wichita, sister, Fern Eaglin and her husband John, of Sidney, NE, 2 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews. The family has asked that memorial donations be made to KETCH, 1006 E. Waterman, Wichita, KS 67211.
