AnnaBelle (Ann) Francis (nee Perlog) Maack met her husband to be, Charles (Chuck) Chris Maack on Virginia Beach, Virginia the summer of 1953. Charles was a Navy man stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. They married April 6, 1954, in Ann’s hometown of Canton, Ohio while Chuck was enroute to duty on the south Pacific Ocean island of Guam, Marianas Islands. After paperwork identified Ann as now a Navy spouse, she joined Chuck on Guam in November 1954 to begin their subsequent long “honeymoon” of over 67 years traveling around the world during Chuck’s 27-year Navy career and following retirement. Daughter Monica Ann was born on Guam August 1955, son Michael Chris was born in Washington, D.C. January 1959, son Mark Andrew was born in Oahu, Hawaii April 1962, and daughter Mary Marlese was born in London, England May 1970. Monica, and now ex-husband Michael Tiller, had three daughters Erin, Lauren, and Caitlin. Michael and wife Leigh Anne Rowdon Maack had daughter Kaleigh and son Casey. Mark remained single, and daughter Mary, at the time married to Aaron Stedman, had daughter Shelby. Mary since remarried Jason Goodin. Chuck and Ann’s extended family now include five great-granddaughters and three great-grandsons.
Reflection Pointe Funeral Home and Crematory provided private family services, and Ann’s ashes will be laid to rest at the Winfield, Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery in the Fall where Chuck’s ashes will one day join hers following military funeral honors.
Both enjoyed practicing their Catholic faith with fellow retired and active-duty military families at the McConnell Air Force Base Saint Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Chapel. Life is cherished with memories forever, and dying joyfully means we have finally met, face-to-face, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as well as joined family and friends who preceded us.
