James M. Grainger, beloved Father and Grandfather passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025 at age 73. He was born to Harold and Wanda (Taylor) Grainger in Wichita, KS. On September 3, 1951
Jim grew up with his Dad and an Uncle in the car body business and it truly made an impression on him. As a teenager he began his career working alongside them continuing the tradition. In the mid 70’s he began working at Boeing but once his sweet baby daughter Kari, was born he decided to go back into the body shop business as he surely didn’t want a lay-off looming overhead.
Then in 1980 he felt the pull of Aircraft once again but continued to work on cars at home, really enjoying the body painting side of his hobby and the extra cash was nice. After a few years at Beechcraft he returned to Boeing and ultimately retired after 25 years.
Jim absolutely loved and adored his daughter Kari and her husband Colin, but the biggest love of all belongs to his grandchildren, Madelyn and Gabriel. You could bet that in any conversation you had with Jim he’d be certain to mention their names with the biggest smile on his face and a twinkle of pride in his eyes! To Jim, there was nothing better than seeing them grow up. Well, maybe seeing his Kansas City Chiefs win a Superbowl or 2 was pretty dang good, too!
Jim’s memory lives on with his daughter Kari and her husband Colin Reiss. His Grandchildren Madelyn Bentley and Gabriel Reiss. His Sister, Jan (Bill) Pitz.
