Mark Evan Dodds

d. February 26, 2025

Wichita, Kansas

Mark Evan Dodds passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at age 64. He was born in Sacramento, CA, to George and Aletta Dodds.

Mark lived in locations around the world and across the country, but his favorite place to be was at home, wherever that was at the time.

He made friends everywhere he went. He started conversations with people wherever he was, whether the grocery store or at his job, and within a few minutes they were chatting like old friends. He was a champion dad joke teller and loved to laugh.

During football season, you could count on Mark to be near a television watching games. He didn’t even have to have strong feelings about the teams who were playing – he watched because he loved the game.

He was a diehard 49ers fan, loved the Chiefs and was perpetually disappointed when his Nebraska Huskers eked out another loss.

When Mark wasn’t watching football, you could often find him in the kitchen, where he would bake fresh bread and rolls, or concoct some new dish for dinner. He was an excellent baker and cook.

Mark enjoyed walking and loved his dogs. He would have adopted just about every dog that needed a new home if he could have.

Mark grew up in Sacramento. He graduated from Luther Burbank High School and earned a Business of Science degree from California State University Sacramento.

He joined the Air Force in 1987 and served 10 years on active duty and 14 years in the Air Force Reserves. He served as a maintenance and munitions officer on F-16s, KC-135s and A-10s. He also spent 3 years in Germany working closely with the German Air Force at a base that flew Tornados. He was proud to have served his country.

After leaving active duty, Mark earned a Master of Business Administration from Wichita State University and worked as an accountant. He then re-enrolled as an undergraduate student to take the required accounting classes so he could sit for the CPA exam.

Mark had a solo accounting practice for 15 years. He loved helping clients build their small businesses.

More than anything, Mark was a helper.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Kyle Dodds (Taylor Lawrence). Mark is survived by his wife of 40 years, Cori Lyn (Sedgwick) Dodds; children, Evan (Michelle) Dodds, Alyx Marie Garner, and Ryan (Tom Hawkins) Dodds; son-in-law, Michael Aaron Garner; siblings, Garold Thomas (Sue) Dodds, Ross William (Luann) Dodds, DeAnn Dodds; parents-in-law, Alan Rex and Lois Marie Sedgwick; grandchildren, Taylor Shane Dodds, Elsie Lyn Garner, Emmalynn Rylee Dodds, Victoria Ainsley Dodds, Ethan Thomas Dodds, Callum Michael Garner, and Oakley Maddox Dodds.
