Scott Bui

Farewell, Scott. Our dear brother, uncle, father, son, and friend. Scott has departed from Earth to find eternal rest in paradise. He was 38 years old, still brimming with youth and beauty. Wherever he is now, you can be sure he's tuning into 80s music, belting out those Chinese and Vietnamese karaoke melodies, perfecting his breakdance moves, and charming all the single ladies.

Many of you may be wondering how Scott left us—whether out of curiosity or to ease the ache of the void left by not knowing. Scott wouldn't have wanted us to fixate on his passing. Instead, he would have preferred that we all celebrate his life. Yet, for those who truly knew Scott, he would have wanted you to hear the alternate ending. In that version, he set out on horseback to rescue a group of villagers and sea turtles from pirates. Did he succeed? Absolutely, yes! He managed to save them all. He valiantly shielded them from harm but unfortunately succumbed to his own injuries, going out like a true warrior.

Scott was a lover. His love language was caring for others. At any gathering, you'd find him fetching chairs, serving up drinks, inquiring about your needs, and making sure everyone else was comfortable before himself. You might have thought, 'This guy never stops moving!' And that's because he was always on the move, ensuring others' happiness and spreading joy through laughter in the room.

He was a man of simplicity. Love was his sole concern and nothing else. He never indulged in personal purchases, dedicating every cent to bringing happiness to others. You might recall the times he cruised around in his iconic, worn-out green Mazda pickup, a legacy from his father. You might also remember him driving his compact black Toyota Yaris, a gift from his brother. But you'll never recall him in a Lexus or Mercedes, nor remember the pair of Jordans he didn't possess. Material things held no significance for him. You mattered. Those around him mattered. He often took the time to jot down his thoughts about his friends and family in diaries, focusing on the positive aspects to keep those memories alive. He was a being who bestowed love selflessly, with the scale of his affection perpetually tipped away from himself and toward those who needed it most. Scott Bui, 38, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2023.  He was born December 28, 1984 to Lan Bui and Nhung Pham in Wichita, KS.  

Scott is survived by his parents; children, Lillian and Trystan Bui; siblings, Thang Nguyen, Thu Hoang, Tuong Nguyen, Andrew Nguyen, Lewis Bui, Allen Bui, Annie Bui, Tania Rhiger and Frank Bui; and his nieces and nephews: Jesse Hoang, Jonathan Hoang, Erica Nguyen, Justin Nguyen, Thomas Nguyen, Dylan Nguyen, Jessica Nguyen, Ayden Nguyen, Anderson Bui, Archibald Bui, Abigail Bui and Isabelle Bui. 

Visitation: Friday, August 18, 2023, from 1 to 6 pm at Reflection Pointe Funeral & Cremation Services, 3201 S. Webb Rd., Wichita, KS 67210.  Recitation of the Rosary, 6 pm, Friday, August 18, 2023 at Reflection Pointe and 9:30 am, Saturday, August 19, 2023 at All Saints Catholic Church.  Mass of Christian Burial: 10 am, Saturday, August 19, 2023 at All Saints Catholic Church, 3205 E. Grand St., Wichita, KS 67218.  Inurnment to follow at Ascension Cemetery.
